Wool Slippers and Felt Boots as Gifts: A Practical Guide for Women, Men and Kids

· 5 min čtení

Trolla Dots wool slippers handmade by OmaKing in Estonia, a warm winter gift

Warm slippers and felt boots are among the most practical winter gifts: almost everyone wears them every day, and a well-made pair lasts for several seasons. The difficult part is choosing the right style and, above all, the right size for someone else. This guide groups our handmade wool slippers and felt boots by the person you are buying for, explains how to guess a size safely and tells you when to order so the parcel arrives before the holidays anywhere in the EU.

Quick answer: for a safe gift, choose a closed wool or felt slipper in a neutral colour, go one size up if you are unsure, and order by early December. For someone who spends time outside in cold, dry weather, felt boots make a bigger but still very wearable present.

Wool slippers for women and men

The classic: Trolla

The Trolla lambswool slippers are closed slippers with a woollen textile upper, a 100% lambswool lining and a soft latex insole covered in lambswool. A rubber detail on top makes them easy to slip on, also for a high instep, and the outsole is velour. They can be washed by hand or in the machine at 30 °C on the wool programme, which matters for a gift that will be worn every day. There is also a Trolla Dots version with a wider toe area for barefoot shoe wearers.

For barefoot fans: natural felt with a wide toe

If the person you are buying for wears barefoot shoes, the OmaKing Barefoot Indoor Slippers are the most suitable choice. Upper, lining and insole are natural felt, the toe area is wider, leather details stop the opening from stretching and the light rubber sole is flexible and non-marking. Note that they come in EU sizes 36–43.

The design gift: TOKU

TOKU Brussels slippers are handmade from 100% lambswool felt in southern Estonia. The insole has arch support and a slightly raised heel, and the sole is durable microfibre with a PU coating. Each pair comes in a cotton cloth bag, so you need no extra gift box. TOKU was named "the new Estonian classic" by the jury of the Estonian Design Awards, and its designer won Estonian Young Designer of the Year in 2018.

All three styles are made by OmaKing, a family workshop in Estonia that has made shoes since 1927. For a closer comparison of wool, felt and leather slippers, read our guide Wool vs Felt vs Leather Slippers.

Felt boots: a bigger gift for cold winters

Felt boots are for outdoor use in cold, dry conditions: winter walks, the dog in the snow, the cabin, the market stall. The Nesna Lobben felt boots are the original Norwegian felt boot design, designed to meet the needs of dog mushers. The Polar Lobben felt boots have a deep-groove, non-slip moulded PU sole. Both are 100% wool felt with wool felt insoles and are made in Estonia to NATO AQAP 2110 and ISO 9001 manufacturing standards.

Felt boots have no left or right foot at first; they mould to the feet with wear. They work best in dry cold; for slush and wet snow, a leather winter boot is the better choice. Everything about how they work and fit is in our felt boots guide.

How to guess the size of a gift

Size is the main risk with shoe gifts. These steps help:

  • Check a shoe they already own. The EU size is usually printed inside the tongue or on the insole.
  • Between sizes, go up. Wool lining is thick and felt slippers are worn with socks. For Trolla, we recommend the larger size if the foot is between two sizes.
  • Felt boots are bought larger. Nesna Lobben can be bought up to two sizes bigger than normal shoes, especially if worn with wool socks. Check the size note on each product page.
  • Some models come in double sizes. Halla slippers, for example, come in 35–36, 37–38 and so on, which makes a guess easier.
  • Felt stretches a little. Natural felt slippers mould to the foot and may stretch over time, so a snug fit at first is fine; a pair that is too big will not shrink.

If the size is wrong, the recipient can still exchange it: you have 30 days to return a pair with a prepaid label (sale items: 14-day EU withdrawal right). Keep the order confirmation for the person receiving the gift.

Gifts for children

Children grow quickly, so a slipper is a gift that is always needed. Our kids' slippers are handmade by OmaKing from natural felt: Põnni has a 100% sheep's wool lining and a rubber sole, KAKU has an adjustable Velcro strap and a thin non-slip rubber sole. KAKU can be washed by hand or in the machine at 30 °C on a wool programme.

When to order for the holidays

Every order ships from our EU warehouses on the next business day and arrives in 3–8 business days, with flat €3 shipping to every EU country. For delivery before 24 December, we suggest ordering by 10 December. Orders after that often still arrive in time, but post is slower in the weeks before Christmas.

Gift checklist

  • Indoor (slippers) or outdoor in the cold (felt boots)?
  • Does the person like barefoot shoes or have wide feet?
  • Size checked on a shoe they already wear?
  • Between sizes: one size up.
  • Neutral colour (beige, grey, black) if you do not know their taste.
  • Ordered by 10 December for Christmas delivery?

Frequently asked questions

Can wool slippers be washed?

Many can. Trolla and Halla can be washed by hand or in the machine at 30 °C on the wool programme, inside a wash bag, and air dried away from heaters. Check the care note on each product page.

Are felt boots warmer than slippers?

They are made for a different job. Felt boots are for outdoor use in cold, dry weather; slippers are for indoors. Wool felt keeps feet warm in both.

Can I return a gift?

Yes, within 30 days with a prepaid return label. Sale items have the 14-day EU withdrawal right.
